Don't Worry - You won't have that many books!

There are however distribution procedures:

Each August a letter goes home to your house to inform you to come up to the school for early pick up.  The number of books being distributed is fewer than years past and many teachers have opted to use online resources and subscriptions rather than the traditional print textbooks. However they aren't all extinct just yet.  The Campus Textbook Coordinator has all of the high school textbooks in storage in the library.  When you come to pick up your books in August you must come on the days specified in the letter.  You MUST have your schedule and your ID#. If you are a new student you must go to the Counselor's office to have these two items.  Additionally if you have never checked out textbooks before you must pick up a student information data form and complete it and bring it with you to the library when you pick up your books so we can create an account for you.

When you come to pick up your books in August you will show your schedule to the librarian and tell her whether or not you have checked out textbooks at the high school before. If you have than you will simply see an aide who will pull your books for you, give you book covers and you will then see Mrs. Wagner or another aide to check out your textbooks.  The books are checked out to you by barcode and you and only you will have that barcoded book on your account. If you lose it or trade with a friend you will still be responsible for that barcoded book.

You are expected to have book covers on your books whether they are at school or home.  You may keep your books at home.  All teachers will have at least a few books if not a full class set in their rooms for use in school.  Occasionally your teachers may ask you to bring them to school for their own purposes.  We do not have lockers so it is recommended you keep your books at home in a safe place. NOT in your truck or a friends car or their house but at home in your house in a safe place. This reduces the risk of damage or theft. Remember you are responsible for the books you take out.

At the end of the year a few weeks before school ends Mrs. Wagner will begin collecting books as the teachers finish with them. Some teachers keep them right up to the last day of school and others like to turn them in early.  It is up to your teacher to decide which method they prefer.  You will have about 8 days to get all your books turned in and library/textbook obligations cleared so start early and don't wait untl the last day of school. Seniors you must have all textbooks and library materials returned and cleared of obligations in order to walk for graduation and your final report card/transcripts may be held.

Teachers:

You are responsible for all the books you take out. They are also barcoded and you may request a list of your books out anytime during the school year.  The books you have in your classroom should be covered and an inventory check taken periodically to be sure you still have all the books you checked out at the beginning or during the school year.  Keep all your books in a safe and secure place to avoid damage or theft.  It is your responsibility to keep your books in good condition and preferably in a locked cabinet or shelf.

Please do not ask library aides to check out textbooks to you. This is the librarian's duty and only she will check out these books unless they are otherwise directed by her.

Do not wait until school starts to get your books. You will have 2 weeks prior to school to get them.

When wishing to order workbooks and/or other resource materials please e-mail Mrs. Wagner and include the necessary documentation. If you need a copy of that list please e-mail her for a textbook request order form.

At the end of the year please take an early count of your books and whether or not you return them early or the last day you will not be cleared by the librarian until your books are accounted for. We have been having an increase in the numbers of classroom books getting lost each year.

The average cost of a textbook is $65.00 but they can be as high as $95.00 or more.  The textbook purchasing methods have changed so please take care of these valuable resources.

All Ancillary materials are your responsibility to maintain. They usually only come with the 1st year's order if anything and re-orders are free only with the adoption.

Social Studies will begin seeing some sample materials coming in Mid-to-late February 2012.

If you find materials damaged during the year please bring them by the library for Mrs. Wagner to repair them before they get worse.

Thank you for your support in keeping our resources in good condition.
