Update from our Acting Superintendent

Dear GWISD Parents and Students:

Rest assured that I have been keeping up with the latest COVID 19 news and updates from only the most reliable sources, including our local and state health department. I share your concern regarding the health and safety of our community and how this situation will impact our 2020-2021 school year.

What we do know is that the Governor’s office has informed us that schools will open in the fall and that we will be receiving ongoing guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on what that will look like. I am sure you understand how fluid and ever-changing this situation is; however, we will open our schools only within the guidance and parameters published by TEA. We also know that GWISD will be offering a combination of face to face and online instruction. Also, our instructional setting will look much different than before. We are currently working to prepare for a strong and safe instructional school year. Our goal is to keep our students connected with teachers so that we can meet students’ academic needs. We will be sharing specific information as soon as we are able to.

In the meantime, I want to thank you for submitting your feedback on the survey we posted on Facebook. We have received over 260 responses.  We also want to thank our staff for submitting their feedback on returning to school in August. We will take that information into consideration as we develop our plan.

I want to encourage all our GWISD families to heed caution as they travel and go about their business. Please follow the advice of health experts and local authorities so that we may minimize the spread of this virus as much as possible. Help us manage this pandemic locally as we have in the past, so that we can see ALL our students face to face again and prepare them for the future.

Please continue to monitor your email, our website, our Facebook and Twitter pages as we communicate specific information about the reopening of our schools.

Stay safe. Stay healthy.

Roland Quesada, Ed. D.
