After months of anticipation and excitement, George West ISD is completing the construction project at the high school. School administrators, board members, and contractors have been working on the current bond project passed by voters in 2014. A band hall, student activity center (SAC), and gym—complete with associated facilities—have been constructed adjacent to George West High School.
George West ISD would like to invite the public to the Grand Opening of these facilities on Monday, April 24 beginning at 5:30.
A full schedule of activities and celebration has been planned for the evening. The community will gather at the front of the new gym for a ribbon cutting at 5:30. Immediately following, the public is invited to tour the new facilities. Student presentations and performances are scheduled simultaneously in both the band hall and the SAC.
At 7:00 p.m., the visitors will gather in the new gym for an informational time of celebration and recognition. Following the ceremony, FCCLA will host two alumni inaugural basketball games—the first to be played in the new gym. The girls’ game is scheduled for 7:15, and the boys’ game should begin at 8:10. GWHS Alumni are invited to participate in the games and may contact Mrs. Carroll at GWHS. While usually a fund raiser for the FCCLA Club, no admittance fees will be charged. However, donations will gratefully accepted as students are working to raise funds for their national competition. Also, in conjunction with the grand opening, FCCLA will be having a silent auction, bake sale, and concession stand. All proceeds will be used for the National Competition.
